However, a total of sixteen teams – the top two teams from each pool and the top four third-placed teams – will then advance to the knockout stage of the competition. This knockout phase will include the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. As such, there will be a total of 52 matches played during the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.

Adapted event format allows for multiple hosts for the group stage, up to two hosts for the round of 16 and quarter-finals, and a maximum of one host for the semi-finals and final .
