FIH launches bid process to host 2026 Men’s and Women’s World Cups
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) on Tuesday launched the bidding process to host the FIH Men’s and Women’s World Cups of Hockey to be played in 2026. The prestigious event, the biggest competition in men’s hockey and in addition to the Olympic Games and played every four years, involves sixteen of the best teams in the world. The deadline for submitting applications is May 31, 2022. The hosts will be decided by the board on November 3 and announced at the FIH Congress to be held virtually on November 4-5 this year, the FIH said. FIH in a press release.
FIH CEO Thierry Weil said: “The FIH World Cup of Hockey, for both men and women, means a lot to the global hockey community, especially the athletes and fans. We therefore look forward to receiving many applications to host these prestigious events, which will hold the attention of all hockey fans around the world and where legends will be created!”
The next FIH Women’s World Cup of Hockey will take place in July this year in Spain and the Netherlands, while the next FIH Men’s World Cup of Hockey will take place in January 2023 in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.
The last Men’s World Cup was also held in India in Bhubaneswar in 2018 and was won by Belgium. The last edition of the Women’s World Cup was held in 2018 in London and the Netherlands won the title.
